Paramics

Paramics is a microsimulation modelling package that models the behaviour of individual vehicles on urban road networks, and produces a graphical display of vehicles moving and interaction as they travel through and between intersections.  It simulates and displays the interaction of vehicles using a complex car-following, lane-changing model.

In addition to providing a visual display of vehicle movements in real time on a road network, Paramics products include network performance measures in industry, travel times, vehicle delays and intersection levels of service.

The Roads and Traffic Authority of New South Wales has made extensive use of Paramics microsimulation modelling for both large and small urban road projects. Paramics and other microsimulation packages are widely used and well-accepted tools for assessing and displaying the effects of changes to urban road networks.
